Servant Teams

Altar Team

Team Leader: Peyton Wright, pwright103@triad.rr.com

The Anglican Diocese of the South describes the Altar Guild as a lay ministry to serve God in His house by preparing the Sanctuary for worship, maintaining and caring for the sacred vessels, altar linens, and vestments, and serving the clergy and the parish. Following procedures and traditions of the Church, the Altar Team functions “behind the scenes”, before and after each service. Serving on the Altar Guild provides a wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth through humble service, and the opportunity to help as assistants to the clergy in making the worship life of the parish run smoothly. The Altar Team might be for you if you would like to (1) serve in a quiet yet important way, (2) be involved but don’t feel comfortable “up front”, or (3) would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about the elements and symbolism liturgy.

Audio/Visual Team

Team Leader: The Rev’d Jim Reed, jim@christchurchws.org

With training, these volunteers run the soundboard, recording equipment, and the power point during worship services.

Building Maintenance Team

Team Leader: Randy Ogburn, rogburn@triad.rr.com

Getting the most from any building depends highly on the careful observance of maintaining it. There may be a misconception out there that you have to be “handy” or a specialist to be a Maintenance Team member. This is definitely an asset, but so are people who can identify needs, be available to coordinate or supervise work (especially during the work week), lend a helping hand, run errands, like painting, don’t mind climbing a ladder, and who are capable of getting a little dirty from time to time. Our goal is to have several people on hand who are familiar with all aspects of the church building, and we’ll get you up to speed!

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Team Leader: Dana Huffman, dana@christchurchws.org

Do you desire to see children grow in Jesus’ love and in return see children love Jesus? Our new children’s ministry program uses a Montessori-style method for introducing children ages 4-12 to the truths of our faith. Volunteer to rotate as a Children’s Ministry Teacher during our worship services! “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

Clean Team

Team Leader: Lisa Breeding, lisa@christchurchws.org

The mission of Christ Church’s Inside Cleaning Team is to support the comfort and health of the whole congregation by improving the cleanliness of our church building. We serve in pairs approx. every 6 weeks to get the cleaning job done efficiently & effectively. This team accommodates individuals who need flexibility in their service schedule since cleaning may be done on your own time (evenings, weekends or weekdays).

Flower Team

Team Leader: Marci Fricke, mfricke@wakehealth.edu

The Flower Team’s primary purpose is to provide fresh flowers for the altar every Sunday and to provide floral decorations for special services/ occasions throughout the year. It truly is a ministry to be able to provide a beautiful arrangement on the Lord’s Day, to both honor Him and to bless the parishioners. And it has become for each of us, a meditative, holy experience as we each in turn spend our time in the church to prepare the arrangements and place them in the sanctuary. There is no special talent needed, just a love for the Lord and a love for flowers!

Food Pantry Team

Team Leader: Bill Bledsoe, bill@billbledsoe.com

Jesus told us that we are the salt of the earth, that our good works were for the benefit and preservation of the world in which we live. Jesus also commanded all Christians to love their neighbors. After hearing these teachings, it is hard to imagine how one might be a faithful disciple of Jesus and not serve the community. Most of the ways we serve our community are in unsung acts of love, but we also serve our neighbor through organized ministries and missions like our Food Pantry, which is open every third Saturday of each month from 9-11am in order to provide food and other goods for those who are in need. Come and see first-hand the difference you make. Become a part of this ministry by putting food together, greeting them or getting to know someone. They sincerely give to us as much as they receive. Our neighbors, God’s children!

Greeter Team

Team Leader: Joy Ogburn, joyogburn@triad.rr.com

Our Greeter team is at the forefront of Christ Church’s outreach to our community. Our team not only enthusiastically welcomes all the wonderful folks who already attend Christ Church, but also seeks to leave a lasting positive impression on all our guests. Being a first-time guest to a church can be an intimidating experience, and our greeter team plays a critical role in helping our guests feel comfortable when worshiping with us on Sunday mornings. Jesus said, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35). God brings our guests to Christ Church for a reason, and we seek to honor this gift.

Grounds Team

Team Leader: E.B Hiatt, ebhiatt@triad.rr.com

The mission of the Grounds Team is to glorify God in the appearance of the church’s yard and at the same time be a good neighbor to the residents of the Ardmore community. Each team of two serves approximately every 5-6 weeks. Regular duties are to: mow; edge; weed; and remove debris from walkways, steps, stairwells and street curbs. Seasonal duties include: seeding and feeding in the fall; applying fertilizer and weed control in the spring; spreading pine needles in the spring; removing leaves in the fall; removing snow and applying ice melt as needed in the winter; and pruning bushes as needed. If you enjoy yard work, we would welcome you to the team.

Hospitality & Events Teams

Hospitality: Karen Kroncke, karenkroncke@aol.com;

Events: Marci Fricke, mfricke@wakehealth.edu

The Hospitality Team is composed of energetic and dedicated Christ Church members who enjoy sharing food, coffee and camaraderie with their brothers and sisters in Christ, and with those guests who visit CC. Our primary responsibility is to prepare Sunday morning coffee and cold drinks for those attending Sunday services.  We also work with the Events Team to plan food and set up for Christ Church special events.

Music Team

Team Leader: The Rev’d Jim Reed, jim@christchurchws.org

Christ Church musicians have a heart for honoring God through music and enjoy working in a team environment. Our musical requirements change with the seasons of the Church year. If you are proficient in a musical instrument or can sing well, Jim Reed would love to speak with you about the possibility of serving on the team.

Nursery Team

Team Leader: Nicki Carpenter, nicki@christchurchws.org

Our nursery workers play an important role in caring for and nurturing our little people (infants and toddlers) during worship services. Every time you serve, you give an invaluable gift to parents who visit Christ Church—the freedom to engage fully in prayer and worship. And it shouldn’t be forgotten that our nursery workers are also the “other greeters” at Christ Church. “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.” (Mark 9:37a)

Parking Team

Team Leader: Ty Rice, fitnesssolutions@live.com

The parking team has the primary responsibility of placing signs indicating visitor/handicap parking and Christ Church member parking. There are two visitor/handicap signs, four orange cones and one Christ Church parking sign with arrow. Setting out these materials and encouraging CC members to park in our designated parking lot (between Cloverdale and Melrose) in order to leave on-street parking for visitors and disabled guests are the typical tasks of Parking Team members on Sunday mornings or any other service time.

Prayer Team

Team Leader: Amanda Rice, aje210@hotmail.com &

Pat Weaver, patweaver@triad.rr.com

This team prays for the needs of the church and leads the church in prayer. Members of this team pray with people on Sundays during our service, and receive regular training in this area.

Reader Team

Team Leader: Pam Windley, pamwindley@yahoo.com

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” Proverbs 25:11

You can expect to hear a word from God at every Christ Church worship service. As Christians, we believe that God speaks through his Word, the Bible. We place a tremendous emphasis on hearing and receiving the Word of God from both clergy AND lay readers who make up our Christ Church Reader Team. If you serve on the Reader Team, you have a special opportunity to ponder scripture during your preparation time and then to share the assigned Old or New Testament scriptures from the pulpit during our worship services.
